5 TRUMP-tastic ways to impress on your first day in a new job
So, Donald Trump starts his new job today, 20th January 2017.
For all his experience and knowledge, there will be a degree of uncertainty and a need for assurance; perhaps for him and the people around him! While many of us will not be able to relate to his level of wealth, surely everyone who has started a new job will be able to recall the pressure of starting a new challenging or shifting into a new career.
Therefore the team in Abacus has created 5 quick tips on how to help you fit-in to the new job, mix with new colleagues and make the right moves for your new company:
Try to explore. Be curious, ask open questions and show your interest to get to know the company and where it is going.
Right people – identify those in your immediate team to establish common connections and interests. They will be an immediate source of information about culture, contacts, projects and more. You can even start to prep before you arrive by reviewing staff profiles or use social media such as Linkedin.
Understand business goals. Within your department/function, quickly establish what goals are active, what the pressure points are and establish if you can opt in to help out.
Make first impressions last. Dress smart, smell great, introduce yourself with a smile and ask open conversational questions to people. It shows your interest and potential.
Prioritise your own duties. Pick the brains of your immediate line manager, ensure you get time to ask questions about the role and discover what is important for week one, month one and quarter one. The start to make an impact.
See what we did there!! Good luck to everyone who is starting a new job… including Mr Trump!
