Competency-Based Interviews:

This interview is used to test the candidate’s competency at job-related skills. For example, a candidate being interviewed for a secretary position could potentially be asked to take a typing test. Another example could be a Tech professional being asked to create a line of code.

Competency-based interviews are commonly used for graduate and junior level roles as it allows the candidate to showcase their skills. Even if they have little to no experience in the particular job area they are applying

Examples of questions that could be asked could include:

  • Give us an example of a situation where you had to deal with a conflict with an internal or external client.
  • How do you influence people in situations where there are conflicting agendas?
  • Give us an example of a situation where you had a fundamental disagreement with one of your superiors.

Key Features

The competency-based interviews help companies to zero in on the candidate’s they believe to be most skilled for the job. This also allows the candidate to demonstrate their skills and whether they will be a good fit for the company. This type of interview is typically used for junior level candidates.
