Abacus Professional Recruitment are pleased to be recruiting for a Claims Technician on behalf of a successful, highly recognised Underwriting Agency in Belfast. Our client is one of the leading Delegated Underwriters in the market, providing services for a variety of Brokers and Insurance Intermediaries in Northern Ireland, ROI and across the UK.

The key purpose of this role is to manage the life cycle of the motor damage claims process, all the way from initial investigation to final settlement. As a result it will be your responsibility to liaise with all external stakeholders involved including Brokers, Insurers, Solicitors, Policyholders and other clients but to name a few.

Any enquiries from these parties will be dealt with in a timely, efficient and accurate manner bringing about mutually beneficial solutions for the business and policyholder.

You will also be working closely with the in house Senior Claims handler, assisting in any capacity required. Furthermore, you will be required to communicate effectively with other departments within the business and any other external service providers when necessary.

Lastly, in this role you will regularly prepare documentation and settlement agreements for cheque processing by Claims Technicians, all the while ensuring all your activities are FCA compliant. Moreover, you will perform any other duties as requested by your immediate superior to ensure efficient running of your department.


You will hold 5 GCSE’s, grade C or above including English and Maths (this will be waved in lieu of extensive, relevant experience). It would also be desirable for you to hold or be working towards your ACII qualification.

You will have a minimum of 2 year’s working in motor claims handling role. Although any of this time dealing with Personal Injury claims would be preferable.

You will have a solid knowledge of computerised insurance systems such as OpenGI, and will ideally have a broad understanding of insurance products.

In terms of personal attributes, it will be essential you come from a strong customer service background with advanced skills of negotiation. As a result, it is expected you will be an effective communicator through a variety of media, and of course possess an excellent telephone manner. Furthermore, you will be investigative and be able to make decisions quickly.

Lastly, it is important you are self-motivated to manage your own workload, using your own initiative while being a willing, enthusiastic team player within a demanding and dynamic environment.


Generous salary depending on experience and education.

Favourable working hours- 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday.
